Lalla West Profile & Artworks



Lalla West is a senior Ngaanyatjarra woman and a committed and active community member of Warburton in Western Australian who in 2003, became the first woman to be elected to the Ngaanyatjarra Shire Council. She is a current shire councilor and is also closely involved with the Tjulyuru Cultural and Civic Centre. She is a widely exhibited artist: an experienced carver with Maruku Arts, a painter with the Warburton Arts Project and Kayili Arts and a fibre artist with Tjanpi Desert Weavers. Lalla has also created works in glass and in 2017, worked closely with other traditional owners and the National Museum of Australia to curate the groundbreaking exhibition Songlines, Tracking the Seven Sisters.
