Lily Bates is minyma Yarnangu, a Ngaanyatjarra speaking Aboriginal woman based at Warburton in the Western Desert area of Australia. Her considerable and prolific carving skills have been passed on in a traditional bush upbringing through the Tjukurpa, the Law and way of life governing her country.
