This painting depicts the story of Ngura Ini Atiyanyi (Eagle's nest), which is the Tjukurpa Songline from Carmeena and Sandy Bore:

Iriti kunyu atiyala katu ngarangi walauruku mangu. Mangu panya nyara palula kunyu walaurungku Anangu tjuta iluntara tarka tjuta tjungkupai, ka kunyu wati panya kutjungku rawangka putu katara wanipai. Ka kunyu wati kutju alintjaranguru pitjanyu munu kunyu palunya nintinu mangu panya katara waninytjaku mara tjampungku. Ka paluru mulapatu katanu.

A long time ago, on top of atiya used to be an eagle's nest. That eagle used to kill people and take the bones up to the top of the nest. One wati (man) came and tried to chop it down but he could not. Then another wati came from the North and showed him how to chop it down using his left hand. So he used his left hand like an alkara (axe) and chopped the nest down. The nest fell to the ground and rolled to the east where it lies today.

Mimili is home to 300 Pitjantjatjara and Yankunytjatjara people who have been living in the area for millennia in harmony with nature and acting as custodians of the land and the Tjukurpa (creation stories). Mimili was formerly known as Everard Park, which was a cattle station that was returned to Aboriginal ownership through the 1981 AP Lands Act. Mimili Community was incorporated as an Aboriginal Community in 1975.
