Biography: Winnie Woods is a Ngaanyatjarra artist who was born in Wanarn, and spends her time between there, Warakurna and Kaltukatjara (Docker River). Winnie was Chairperson for NPY Women's Council for 4 years, and Chairperson for Ngaanyatjarra Media for 5 years, where she worked with her filmmaker husband who sadly passed away in 2021. Winnie has also been on the board of Ngaanyatjarra Health and Ngaanyatjarra Council Aboriginal Organisations. She has been active with Tjanpi Desert Weavers for many years and assisted with the Tjanpi Toyota project, which won the 2005 Telstra National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Award (NATSIAA). Winnie is relatively new to painting on canvas, but is excited to explore this new medium, bringing a lifetime of cultural and artistic knowledge to her practice.
