Paintings depict the Tjukurpa, the Law and stories of Ancestors. Anangu (Central and Western Desert Aboriginal people) have responsibilities for the protection and teaching of different Tjukurpa and there are strict protocols for the imparting of knowledge. The dotting technique has evolved with the need to adapt sacred expressions of Tjukurpa for public viewing and as a depiction of the desert landscape.

Charmaine's story is very much a contemporary one. With the World Heritage Ulu
ru-Kata Tjuta National Park in its back yard, Mutitjulu Community, like most others, has a large numbers of dogs living in close proximity to people. Unfortunately many of these dogs are unhealthy and suffer from scabies. Overcrowding is common, and sometimes 20 or more people may share a single house with a poor water supply and inadequate sanitation. Dogs live a semi-domesticated existence and the relationship between people and dogs is partly one of companionship but is also complicated by other cultural factors.
